The death occurred in Sydney on Tuesday night of Mrs. Sarah Johnston, relict of the late Mr. Thomas Johnston, of Stevenson Street, Taree, who died in February of this year. The late Mrs. Johnston, since the death of her husband, had been living with her son, Mr. J. E. Johnston, of Mambo Island. Some three weeks ago she went to Sydney to visit another son, Mr. Victor Johnston, when she had the attack on Tuesday morning which proved fatal, at the age of 83 years. The late Mrs. Johnston was born on Dingo Creek and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McFadyen. As a young woman, she went to Sydney and at the age of 20 years she was married to the late Mr. Thomas Johnston, and some five years after they moved to Croki and there conducted a store keeping business, for about 15 years. After that they lived at Redbank for some six years and then they moved to Mambo Island, where Mr. Johnston acquired a farm. There they remained until the time for retirement came some 14 years ago, and they purchased a home in Taree, where they lived until February of this year. The late Mrs. Johnston is survived by Mr. W. T. Johnston (Sydney), Mr. Joseph Johnston (Mambo Island), Mr. James Johnston (Muswellbrook), and Messrs. Reginald and Victor (Sydney), who are sons, and one daughter, Mrs. N. Blundell (Tempo). The late Mrs. Johnston was predeceased by one son and two daughters— Mr. Harold Cecil Johnston (Taree), Mrs. T. L. Laurie (Jones' Island) and Mrs. Thomas Gibson (Coopernook). Surviving sisters are. Mesdames W. H. Shoesmith (Cessnock), A. J. Staples (Port Macquarie), and A. Carmody (Bellingen). Mr. John McFadyen, of Mitchell's Island, is a brother. One sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Laurie, of Mitchell's Island, is deceased. The body was taken to Taree by train on Wednesday morning. A service was conducted in St. John's Church of England, Taree, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, by the Rector, Rev. Walter Latham, who also completed the burial service at the Dawson cemetery later.[1]
