Biography

04 Oct 1804, Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky, Bk. 5, p. 208, William McFarland received a land grant of 50 acres on Cypress Creek. (Kentucky Land Grants, Jillson). This was a grant south of the Green River. To be eligible for these grants the applicant was supposed to be over 21 years old and have lived on the land for at least one year. Note that William did not actually turn 21 until 16 Oct 1804.

18 Aug 1813, Kentucky Soldiers of the War of 1812: With an Added Index By Kentucky Adjutant-General's Office http://books.google.com: [full searchable copy also available in catalog on-line at Ancestry.com] (copy in the Tennessee State Library and Archives, Call No. E359.5.K5K4), William McFarland was listed as a private in Barbour's Regt., Kentucky Volunteers of the War of 1812. This regiment rendez-voused at Newport, Kentucky, commanded by Lt. Col. Philip Barbour for the Battle of the Thames campaign. William McFarland was listed as a private under Capt. Wm. Ewing's Co., Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia, enlisted on August 18, 1813 to run until November 17, 1813. His name was not found on the original roll but was furnished by the War Department. His brother Andrew M Mcfarlland also served in Capt Wm Ewing's company

From Find-a-grave.com The McFarland Cemetery is located not far from the old location of the Tower Restaurant on Highway 79 North. Take Highway 79 North from Paris. Turn right at Highway 218 South. Pass Watkins Equipment Service on the left-hand side of the road. Turn in at B & D Trucking. The cemetery is located in a small cluster of trees just to the right of B & D Trucking. William McFarland or Nancy Winders McFarland do not have grave markers.
