Biography
The son of James McGee and Elizabeth (Dixon) McGee, Edgar McGee was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee[citation needed] in 1892, residing there with his family.[1][2] He registered for the World War I draft when he was 25, registering in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee on June 5, 1917.[3] He stated that he was born in West Point, Tennessee and that he lived with his family in, by that time, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, farming on his own account there. Edgar was described as a tall man of medium build with light brown hair and light blue eyes. He did not enlist. By 1920, Edgar boarded in Lawrenceburg, residing with widow Eliza Crews and working as a farm laborer.[4]
Edgar McGee married Bessie Lurlline Crook (1900-1984), the daughter of Marcellus Eldridge Crook and Rosa B. Kirk, marrying in Lawrence County, Tennessee on February 14,1928.[5] They had one daughter together and made their home in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, where Edgard worked as a livestock buyer.[6] By 1940, Edgar McGee owned and operated a retail grocery store in Lawrenceburg.[7]
Edgar McGee passed away in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee at the age of 85[8] and is buried at at Mimosa Cemetery there.[9]
