Robert was born on 22 Apr 1914 in Lisburn, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. ^[1] He was the son of William McGeown and Elizabeth Watson. ^[2]

On 18 Oct 1929 Robert McGeown departed Liverpool, England on board SS Vedic and arrived in Fremantle on 29 November, en route to Sydney then Brisbane to the Salvation Army Training Colony, Riverview, Brisbane. ^{[3] [4]}

In 1937 Robert McGeown (Labourer) lived in Louisavale, Yarraman, Queensland. ^[5]

Robert McGeown married Lena Adelaide Masnada in 1940 in Innisfail, Queensland, Australia. ^[6]

Robert Mcgeown served in World War 2 with the Australian Army and attained the rank of Sapper. His service Number was QX15494. He enlisted on 23 April 1941 at Cairns, Queensland. His next of kin was McGeown, Adelaide. When he enlisted he was living at Innisfail, Queensland. He was released from service on 15 October 1945. When he was discharged his posting was 2/3 Aust Forestry Coy Rae ^{[7] [8]}

He died on 21 Jan 1979 in Rockhampton, Queensland and was buried in the North Rockhampton Cemetery, Rockhampton, Queensland. ^{[9] [1]}
