James Archie McGlashen was born in 1883 in New Zealand, son of James McGlashen (1846–1926) and Mary Ann Egginton (1849–1935).
He married Rose Amelia McNabb in 1911. Their living children include:
- Iris
- Leo Brian
- Jean
- Ivan[1]
He was mayor of Motueka from 1921 when he was elected unopposed[2] to 1924 when he retired.[3]
James died on 12 September 1942 in New Zealand, aged 59. He was buried in Motueka Cemetery, Motueka.
