Jack, born in 1871, was the son of Angus MacKay and Mary A. Murray.[1]He was known throughout his life as "Jack Angus" to distinguish him, among all the John MacKays and McKays, as the son of Angus. His grandfather was Donald MacKay, one of the pioneers in the area.[2]
On his wedding day he tucked Isabelle into the cutter and drove her through a snowstorm and drifts from her father's house to his farm on lot 14, concession 2 in West Zorra, Oxford County. They farmed until 1924 when they moved to John St. in Embro. John became active in community and church affairs in Embro. He served on municipal council and three years as reeve; he was associated with the Oddfellows for 50 years and was past master of the Thistle Lodge, A.F. and A.M.[3]
