Biography

Elizabeth McKee was born in early 1851 at Kilrea in county Londonderry. She was the daughter of Robert McKee, a butter dealer in Kilrea, and Elizabeth, his wife.[1] [2]
When Elizabeth was a newborn infant, her family was enumerated in the 1851 census:
  • Robert and Elizabeth McKee, married 1835, with children:
  • Mary, age 14 years [born c.1837]
  • Robert [jun.], age 11 years [born c.1840]
  • Ann, age 8 years [born c.1843]
  • John, age 5 years [born c.1846]
  • Clerka [Clark], age 2 years [born c.1849]
  • Eliz H [Elizabeth H.], age 1 month [born late 1850 or early 1851]
  • census place: town of Kilrea, parish of Kilrea, barony of Loughinsholin, county Londonderry. [1]
On 17th March 1867, Elizabeth McKee died at Kilrea in her seventeenth year.[3] [4] The Belfast News-Letter noticed the death:
M'Kee—March 17, at the residence of her father, Coleraine Street, Kilrea, Elizabeth, daughter of Mr. Robert M'Kee, aged 16 years. [5]
Her body was buried in the churchyard of Kilrea First Presbyterian. The gravestone at the family plot is inscribed as follows:
      McKEE
Erected by Robert McKee in the memory of his son Clark McKee
who departed this life 17th Aug 1863 aged 15 years
Also his on John who died Jany 4th 1867 aged 21 years
Also his daughter Elizabeth died March 17th 1867 aged 16 years
Also his daughter Ann who died May 2nd 1868 aged 25 years
Elizabeth McKee mother of the above named children
died 29th Dec 1879 aged 64 years
Also her husband Robert McKee died 15th Jany 1881 aged 80 years
In loving memory of Margaret A McKee died 12th Jan 1967 aged 90 years. [4]
