When Joseph Chambers McKibbin was born on 9 April 1893, in Saint Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota, United States, his father, Joseph McKibbin, was 36 and his mother, Mary Dorsey, was 36. [1]
In September 1905 he entered the Hill School at Pottstown, Pennsylvania; was graduated there in June 1911. He entered Princeton (Ivy Club), graduated 1915.[2]
He was with Higginson Co. in New York City until April 1923, when he returned to St. Paul and worked with his father in the family firm, McKibbin, Driscoll and Dorsey.[3]
He married Dorothy Ann Scarritt on 5 October 1927, in Kansas City, Jackson, Missouri, United States.[4] They were the parents of one son, Kevin.
The first winter he and Dorothy lived at Dellwood in the Mackey Thompson house on the Stillwater Road, which was the snowiest winter since 1880 and when his father lived with his young bride at 642 Hennepin and shoveled his way to the end of the street car at Laurel and Dale.[5]
After a motor trip in May 1931 and early June, the disease, Hodgkins, began the final stage. Weakness but no pain. Ending 27 October 1931.[6]
He died on 27 October 1931, in Ramsey, Minnesota, United States, at the age of 38 from Hodgkins Disease,[7] and was buried in Oakland Cemetery, Saint Paul, Ramsey, Minnesota, United States.[8]
Funeral services for Joseph C. McKibbin, 38, who died Tuesday night will be conducted Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the residence. Interment will be in Oakland cemetery.
He is survived by his wife and an infant son.
Mr. McKibbin was a past president of the University Club of St. Paul and also of the Northwest Princeton Alumni Association.
