Biography

James was born in 1862, a son of Benjamin McLeod and Catherine Bushen of Port Mouton, Nova Scotia^{[1] [2]} in Port Mouton, Queens, Nova Scotia, though he grew up in Port Medway^[3]

He was a master mariner, who worked on tow boats, lobster fishing and offshore fishing^[3]

On November 30, 1885, he married Elizabeth Ann Bowers, a daughter of Peter and Ann Bowers of Liverpool, NS^{[4][3] [2] [5]}

Children included:

1. Theoda, born 1886, who died at 4 months^[3]
2. Nellie, born 24 August, 1888^[2] who married William Joseph Quinn^{[6] [3]}
3. Eva May, born 27 October 1891^[2][5], who married Arthur Wyburne Freeman of Milton^{[7] [3]}
4. James Harris "Harry" born 14 September 1894^[2][5], who married Jennie Ramey, daughter of Artemus^{[8] [3]}
