She married William David Haddock in Hopkins Co., TX on 15 June 1923.[1]
William David Haddock (Nov. 22 1887 – Dec. 11, 1948)[2] was considerably her senior and Nunie reared his six other children from his first marriage to Flora Raines. Flora died due to child birth complications.
When W. D. died she was left to raise 4 small children at home by herself. The older 4 were married and lived in different areas of the south. They came home for visits but Nunie to had to work to rear the younger four girls. She washed and ironed for the public, cleaned houses, and worked at the telephone office on Washington Street in Commerce, Texas cleaning it to feed her family and pay bills.
She married (2) Harmon Lemons about 1965 in Hunt Co., TX but not until her children were grown and married by several years.
Nunie Mae McManus was "maw" to grandchildren and "mother" to her children. She was a very hard worker and very kind woman. She worked in the cotton fields alongside her husband and then went in and cooked, cleaned and washed for the family each day.
She was only about 5'1 - weighing about 125 pounds. Her voice was very dainty.
Nunie Mae McManus died November 27,1967 at her home on Stuart Street in Greenville, Hunt Co., Texas. Jones Funeral Home in Commerce rendered services at 2pm on November 29, 1967 [Thursday] by Rev. C.M. Simmons and Rev. B.J. Bell. Pallbearers were: Milford Arrington, Homer and John Brunson, James Belcher, Bobby and C.B. Pickle, Raymond Riddle and Ohmar Porter.
