Biography

Marcia was born on 26 February 1905[1]. Her name is incorrectly written on the NZBDM website as Maraera, likely a mis-transcription. Her parents were Eda Sarah (Edwards) and Archibald Forbes McMinn. She was born at her grandparents' house in College Street, Palmerston North.[2] She also lived in Fielding, Carterton and in Dannevirke as a child.[3] She attended the Convent School in Dannevirke and won 3rd prize for freehand drawing at the Waiarapa Show in 1917,[4]and started to train as a tailor. [5]

Marcia McMinn married Lawrence Lovell on 6 February 1926. [6] They lived in Taihape, Morrinsville and retired to Tauranga in the 1950s when they built 98 Hynds Road, Greerton. Marcia worked at the St. Amand Hotel on the Strand until her marriage to Michael Patrick O' Neill in about 1966. He always called her "Ann". She passed away suddenly in early November 1979[7] while getting ready to re-hang curtains which she had cleaned for Christmas.[8] She was buried at Pyes Pa Cemetery in Tauranga on 14 November 1979 and her funeral was attended by her children and grandchildren.
