Biography

Marietta was born in 1884. She was the daughter of Ira McMullin and Helen Leany. She passed away in 1963.

She was the cousin of Robert Leroy Parker, aka Butch Cassidy. She spoke Spanish, and went with Butch and the Sundance Kid to South America as their translator.

Marietta McMullin was called Etta by her family and friends. She became known as Etta Place.

Dr. Steve Lacy in a new book has revealed the documentation which proves the identity of Butch Cassidy. "Last of the Bandit Riders, revisited-again".

started teaching 1st grade, In Alamo, Nevada August 22, 1908. By 1911 she had become Principal and stayed there until about 1919. Alamo is closer to Goldfield. In 1919 her and Vivian moved to Elgin. Came to Leeds, Utah late in October 1940.

"I was third in the family, followed teaching (mostly in Nevada where I held a life diploma to teach in the Elementary schools) later receiving teachers' retirement salary.

My husband, Vivian K. Mariger, and I came to Leeds late in October 1940 to make this our home. He succumbed to a long-standing heart ailment in 1948. I still "carry on" in the home my parents founded."
