Biography

GEORGE W. MCPHERRAN Died in Eden Valley While Visiting his Brother.

George W. McPherran Esq., a lawyer of prominence in Philadelphia, died at 5.30 Thursday morning, at the home of his brother, John McPherran, in Eden Valley. The deceased was a suffer from pulmonary consumption and had come to Eden Valley two weeks ago in the hope of benefiting his health, but the dread disease had made inroads too serious upon his constitution to be stayed. Mr. McPherran was aged 54 years, and was well known in this vicinity. He was twice married, his first wife being buried in North Laurel Hill cemetery, Philadelphia. He is survived by his widow, and one son, Leslie McPherran Esq., a prominent attorney in Philadelphia. Four brothers and one sister also survive: Robert, of Toledo, Iowa; James, of Sterling, Illinois; Stewart, of Atchison, Kansas; John and Rebecca, of Eden Valley. Mrs. L. K. Obdyke, of Tyrone, is a niece of the deceased. He was the son of the late John and Elizabeth McPherran who remains rest in the cemetery at Arch Spring. When informed by the physician that he could not live shortly after arriving at the homestead, Mr. McPherran's reply was: "Here was I born, here it is fitting I should die." Funeral services were conducted at the late home of John A. McPherran Friday afternoon at 3.30 o'clock, by Rev. L. L. Lewis of Arch Spring, and the remains were conveyed to Philadelphia on Philadelphia express on Friday night. Final service was held at the home of the deceased's mother, 2040 North Twentieth street, Philadelphia, Saturday, after which interment was made at Laurel Hill cemetery, that city.
