Civil War NC 4th Senior Reserves[1]
Hugh Kerr McSwain was born on August 27, 1817 in Orange County, North Carolina, USA, the son of James McSwain and Rachael Riggins McSwain. Her had many siblings and half-siblings including Berry H. McSwain and James McSw Hugh married first Adlissa Hopper McSwain (1818 - 1857). They had at least the following children:[2]
- Rachel McSawin Padgett (1840 - 1888)
- Luther Carson McSwain (1849 - 1913)
- Adlissa McSwain (1851 - 1931)
- George Davis McSwain (1854 - 1855)
Hugh married second Catharine Davis McSwain (1832 - 1879). They had at least the following children:
- Leroy Wellington McSwain (1861 - 1935)
- Lawson Mills McSwain (1866 - 1954)
Hugh died on May 9, 1899 in Cleveland County, North Carolina, USA. He was buried at New Hope Baptist Church in Earl,Cleveland County, North Carolina, USA.[3]
