Parents & Birth

According to the Register from the Deep River Monthly Meeting of Friends, located in Guilford North Carolina:

Joseph McPherson was born 27 day, 8 mo, 1748
His Wife Abigail was Born 1 day 1 mo 1757 and Departed This Life the 28 day 6 mo 1827
[Their daughter] Sarah McPherson was born ye 21 day 2 mo 1781[1][2]

Marriage with Solomon Dixon

Solomon Dixon and Sarah Mcpherson first publicly declared their Intent to Marry in the Quaker manner at a meeting held the 5th of the 10th mo. 1822:

At a monthly meeting of Cane Creek held at Rocky River the 5th of the 10th mo 1822
Solomon Dixon and Sarah Mcpherson expressed their intention of marriage with each other, Lydia Chamness and Rebeca Pickett are appointed to make inquiry concerning her clearness of marriage and report to the next meeting [3]

Inquiry was made and reported to the next meeting on the 2nd day of the 11th mo 1822:

At a Monthly Meeting held at Cane Creek the 2nd of the 11th mon. 1822
Friends appointed to make inquiry concerning the marriage of Sarah Mcpherson report that they find nothing to hinder, they are therefore left at liberty to accomplish marriage orderly[4]

Solomon Dixon and Sarah McPherson took each other in Marriage at the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, as recorded with a Certificate of Marriage dated 28th 11th mo 1822.

Whereas Solomon Dixon son of Simon and Elizabeth in the County of Chatham and state of North Carolina, and Sarah Mcpherson Daughter of Joseph and Abigail of Stokes County, having declared their intention of Marriage with with each other before a monthly meeting of friends held at Rocky river meeting house, in the County of Chatham and State aforesaid, and after due inquiry nothing appearing to hinder were allowed by said meeting to proceed...
Now these are to certify whom it may concern, that for the full accomplishment of their said intention, this twenty Eighth day of the Eleventh month in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and twenty-two, they the said Solomon Dixon and Sarah Mcpherson appeared at a public meeting of friends held at Cane creek meeting house in the County of Orange...[5]

As was customary, at least two friends attended the ceremony to witness that is was accomplished in the "orderly" manner of the Quakers. Lydia Chamness was among those who attended and made report on the 7th day of 12th mo 1822:

At a Monthly Meeting of Cane Creek held at Rocky [River] the 7th of the 12th Mo 1822
The friends appointed to attend the marriage of Solomon Dixon and Sarah McPherson report that it was orderly accomplished. [6]
