Catherine Mary McRae was born about 1861 in Scotland.

There is a Mary McRae (her mother) who immigrates to New Zealand on the same ship as her sister Martha McKay. Listed as Mary 45, Jessie 24, Kate 12 and Flora 7 ^[1]. Both of the sister's husbands had died Martha's husband Finlay in 1868 and Mary's husband Alex in 1864 so were both widows.
