Biography

Ivey Florida Meares was born 12 March 1908, in Anona, Hillsborough County, Florida, where her parents Irving Brownell Meares and Sarah Wesson (Hammock) Meares ^[1] had their home. ^[2] Anona was a small town in what is now Largo, Pinellas County, Florida. ^[3] Her parents may have originally intended to call her Florida Ivey Meares,^[4] but most knew her with the names reversed.

Ivey married Roshier Thomas Hailes in 1938 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida. ^[5] Her husband called her Ivydelle.^[6] Following their marriage, the couple continued living in Tampa and started a family^[7]

The couple had several children, including:

1. Albert Warren Hailes (1944-2018)^[8]

Ivey died on 18 September 1994 in Tampa, Florida,^[9][10] and is buried in Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, Largo, Pinellas County, Florida.^[11]
