William enlisted in the 35th Battalion AIF on Nov 15, 1915. [2]He transferred to the 17th Battalion in France, where he was Listed as Missing in Action in France on October 29, 1916, but made it back to his unit 8 days later. He saw out the war in France as a member of the 53rd Battalion and returned to Australia in 1919.
William married Mary Coulton in 1932.[3]
He passed away in 1961 [4] and is buried in Cessnock Cemetery (Anglican, Section 8, Row 9, Lot 313).[5]
