Cora (Meaux) LeBlanc is a descendant of an Acadian
Cora (Meaux) LeBlanc lived in Louisiana.
Genealogy Summary
The Meaux family can be traced with certainty from Cora Meaux back five generations to her 3rd great-grandfather Michel Meaux, who was born in Saintonge, France in 1744. Michel immigrated to Louisiana by 1770 and served as a Corporal in the Attakapas militia under General Bernardo de Galvez in the march to and capture of Baton Rouge during the American Revolutionary War. Over the next 125 years, five generations of Meauxs would be born in Louisiana, including Michel's son Francois Xavier, born in 1777, Francois Xavier's son Francois, born in 1803, Francois' son Eugene, born in 1830, Eugene's son Sevenne, born in 1853, and Sevenne's daugter Cora, a 6th generation Louisianan.
Cora Meaux was born on March 16, 1897 to Sevenne Meaux and Aline Chaty. Her birth was registered at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice, Vermilion Parish, LA. [1][2][3][4]

Sevenne worked as a farmer. [2]

[3]

1920 Census
On February 11, 1920, Cora (age 23) lived with her husband, Arthur (age 25), and first daughter, Nursey (age 2), in Lafayette, LA (Ward 8), where Arthur worked as a farmer. Cora was pregnant with her second child at this time. [8]
In March of 1920, Cora gave birth to her second child, a boy, which she named Opta after her only brother, Opta Meaux. Little Opta lived for only two months--he died of orchitis and parotitis on May 4, 1920.[9]
Arthur and Cora went on to have four more daughters after the death of their baby boy. The last daughter, Georgie, was born January 3, 1928, less than five months before Cora's death.
1928: Death
Cora died of carcinoma of the small intestines on May 26, 1928, age 31, in the charity hospital in New Orleans, LA. She was buried at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Maurice, Vermilion Parish, LA. [4][7][11][5]
Becuse Cora died at such a young age, none of her grandchildren met her or even knew her name. Cora's grandson Lee Pullin recalled cleaning out his mother Eunice's home after her death in 2010 and finding a lock of Cora's red hair, which disappeared as relatives took things from the house.
Less than three months after Cora's death, baby Georgie died of chronic indigestion on August 8, 1928. She was only seven months old. [10]
When this genealogy research began in fall 2017, no living relatives knew that there had been a 5th LeBlanc sister. Georgie was never spoken of by her father or sisters.
