Thomas is working at this time as a laborer in the Lumbering Industry for Paris Chorles? in McVeigh, Pike County, Kentucky. Thomas signed his name as Tom Meehan, being of medium height and build with gray eyes, dark hair and missing one joint of his right index finger .[5]

YEAR Marriage, No source for Marriage documentation has been discovered at this point. [7] I suspect Thomas and Belle Slone apparently meet when he was working in the Pike County, Kentucky area as a laborer for a company in the lumber industry in late 1918 or later, Belle Slone had recently lost her husband Lewis Slone [8] and 2 daughters Lena Slone [9] and Lakie Slone [10] during the influenza epicdemic in the fall of 1918, all 3 within 5 days, Fishtrap, Pike, Kentucky.[11]
1922 Birth of Daughter, Belle Williamson has a daughter, Sadie Meuham born in 1922 in Pike, Kentucky. No father is listed on this birth record (actual image not available, text only) but as you read on in later years things will begin to fit together. Over the course of her lifetime she will become known as Sadie, Sarah and later yet Marilyn Meehan and when married Marilyn Walsh. [12]
1925 Birth of Son, Bell Williams has a son, Thomas F. Meehan born 1925 in Pike, Kentucky. Again no father is listed on the birth record (actual image not available, text only), but stay with me, I realize the names do not match as one might expect they should. [13]
1926 Birth of Son, George Meehan was born 4 May 1926 in Pikeville, Pike, Kentucky. Extraction from George Meehan's Obituary: Born in Pikeville, Kentucky he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Fallon) Meehan; parents, Thomas and Belle Meehan; brother, Thomas; sisters, Joan Church and Marilyn Walsh and two grandsons. [14]
1928 Birth of Daughter, Belle Williamson has a daughter, Ruby Mekan born in 1928 in Pike, Kentucky. There is no evidence linking Thomas as the father of this child. No father is listed on this birth record as well once again (actual image not available, text only). [15] In 2 years this child will be listed as Ruby Stone on the 1930 US Census [16]. With this child Ruby along with her sister Lillian and mother Belle allowed me to find them on the 1930 US Census in Pike, Kentucky. Then on the 1940 US Census I was able to find Thomas F and George living with Belle, Lillian, and Ruby in Pike, Kentucky. It appears the boys had returned to Kentucky with their mother after the death of their father Thomas. [17].
1930 US Census, Thomas Meehan is about 30 years old, claiming divorced and living with his mother Sarah at 424 8th Street, Brooklyn, NY Sarah is listed as widowed and head of household. Thomas's daughter Sadie (Marilyn), and his 2 sons, Francas Thomas (Thomas) and George from Kentucky are there with him and are listed as Sarah Higgins Meehan's grandchildren. This is a boarding house with both boarders and roomers. My maternal Grandmother, Elizabeth Gill, 24 years old is listed as a boarder, born in County Donegal, Ireland. [18]

YEAR Marriage, No source for Marriage documentation has been discovered at this point. [19] I assume Thomas would have met Elizabeth Gill at his mother Sarah's boarding house in Brooklyn after he had returned from Kentucky, divorced with his 3 children he had with Belle. Apparently they hit it off.
1930 Birth of Daughter, Agnes Joan Meehan was born on 13 July 1930 in Brooklyn, NY at LICH. According to Agnes Joan's Birth Certificate she is the daughter of Thomas Aloysius Meehan, age 32, working as an electrician, born in Brooklyn and Elizabeth Gill Meehan, age 25, doing housework, born in Ireland. They are living at 304 7th Ave Brooklyn, NY at the time of Agnes Joan Meehan's birth. [20]

Research Notes

Alias Discovered: Thomas Patrick Meehan, Thomas Meehan, Thomas A. Meehan, Thomas Aloysius Meehan, Tom Albert Meehan, Thomas Mechan.
Researching this particular person has reminded me of so many times when I was a young boy and would ask my grandmother Elizabeth Gill-Meehan-Foster about her husband, my grandfather, who had passed away long before I was born, what was he like, her reply was always the same " children should be seen but not heard ". 60 plus years later I now know why and still really wish I could have met him.
