Source: S716 Text: Newspaper Text: Lafayette Meeker obituary Text: The Wood County Sentinel Text: Bowling Green, Ohio Text: 8 November 1906 Text: page 7, column 3 Text: Formerly Lived in County CONT CONT La Fayette [sic] Meeker Died At Home in Ada of Cancer of the Stomach CONT CONT Lafayette Meeker, one of the members of the old Meeker family, whose home was north of this city, died Thrusday night at his home in Ada, O., from cancer of the stomach. He had been a sufferer for years with stomach trouble but not until the past few weeks had he been very ill. CONT CONT The remains were brought to this city Saturday at 1 o’clock via the T. & O. C. railway, and were immediately taken to Union Hill, where funeral services were held at 2 o’clock. CONT CONT The deceased was born on the sand ridge north of town about Union Hill in November, 1842. His boyhood was that of a backwoodsman’s son––plenty of hard work, short school hours, and hunting. CONT CONT He married Miss Linda Baughman, and they farmed in this county for many years, removing about twenty years ago to Henry county. She died at their home near Napoleon and he afterwards married Mrs. Roxie Collins, at Napoleon. CONT CONT They removed to Hardin county, and later to Ada. One child, Ethel, who lives at home with the mother, was the product of this last union, while six children of the first wife survive their parents. They are: Willis, who live in Georgia; Mrs. Letta Spafford, of Napoleon; Mrs. Marshall Dimick, residing east of town; Alton Meeker, of near Ada; and Herman and Floyd, who reside at home. CONT CONT He was one of a family of nine, the other members being: J. S. Meeker, who lives east of this city; Mrs. Washington Avery, of Bowling Green; Mrs. Mary McGinnis, of California; Mrs. William Avery, north of town; Mrs. Adeline Francis, near Union Hill; and the following, now deceased: Horatio, a former resident of Sugar Ridge; Mrs. Gilbert Avery, of this city, and Mahlon Meeker, of Missouri.
