Frederick Meigel, Jr. is born 12 May 1894^[1] in New York^[2]. He is the son of Frederick Meigel and Katharina Hauspath. His mother's maiden name is known from the record of his sister's birth in 1897.^[3]

The June 1900 Census of Smithtown Township, Suffolk County, New York lists Anton Meigel, age 51 (born October 1849), and his wife, Ysidia (born February 1848), 52, who have been married for 30 years. The next household in the census is Frederick Meigel, 29 (born May 1870), and his wife Kath. (abbreviated), 25 (born July 1874), who have been married for six years. Anton was born in Germany and immigrated in 1866 and has been in the US for 34 years. His wife was born in New York. Frederick was born in Germany and immigrated in 1890. He has been in the US for 10 years. Anton is a farmer, and Frederick is a brick mason. All can read and write. Also in Frederick and Katherine's household are their sons, Frederick, 6 (born May 1894), and Arthur, 1 (born July 1898).^[2]

In 1910, Frederick Meigel, 39, his wife Katherine, 33, and children Arthur, 11, Lillian K, 9, Agnes, 3, and Barbara, one and a half, live in the Village of Smithtown, Town of Smithtown. Fred, Jr., does not appear in this record.^[4]

Fred, Jr. (called Fred C. Meigel here) is 21 in the 1915 census.^[5]

Frederick, the father, dies 1 November 1960.^[6]
