Biography
Antoinette Kewin was born on February 3, 1867 in Mapleton, Monona, Iowa to Jesse and Sarah Melton. She was the ninth of 11 children. Life was pioneering in that western portion of Iowa
In 1875, then 18, Antoinette moved west with the family to California and settled on a ranch in Stanislaus County (ten miles northwest of Modesto) again being among the pioneer farmers.
Antoinette at the age of 30 married Thomas H. Kewin on February 24, 1897 in Salida where they had two children, Mona and George.
Thomas and Antoinette with family then moved to Modesto as Thomas' business affairs increased. Their children grew up, married as they became fixtures of the city. Antoinette remained married to Thomas until c1928. Afterwards, she spent time in the Modesto family house and in other family properties including a summer compound at Twain Harte and a house in Carmel.
