Charles, as an example, this is what I was trying to say before, but I don't know if it was very clear:

If some people only have the mother's first name from a document (such as marriage, where parents names may be listed as "Hazel and Orley Knapp") they may create another profile for the same person. If you put "Knapp" in the "current surname" field on the profile (not maiden name, which remains the same), they may see the same approximate year of birth, and location and her husband's name and be able to determine that it's the same person. They could then do merges with your profile, to create a stronger global family tree, which is a Wikitree goal. Could you please change this lady's "current surname" to reflect her husband's surname? I'd appreciate the help.

Welcome to WikiTree. I noticed you uploaded a Porterfield as part of your tree, Helen Irene (Porterfield) Rose (1902 - 1983). https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Porterfield-1489. I am working on a Porterfield surname project as my maternal grandmother Juanita so i watch Porterfield profiles to see how we are all related. I have added the parents to Helene Irene. THis connects here to the main Porterfield line that goes back some 7 centuries. good luck making other connections. Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Drew and welcome to WikiTree! The email we just sent has helpful links to get you started.

WikiTree is different than other genealogy websites because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree?

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests.

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will confirm your membership. Then you'll be able to add your family to the tree! We're really glad you're here!
