Biography

Jean Baptiste Mero was born on 13 Feb 1797 in Sainte-Geneviève parish in Berthier and was baptised the next day in Saint-Cuthbert parish, also in Berthier. He was the son of Mathurin Joseph Mereau dit Laplume and Marie Françoise Bérard of Sainte-Geneviève parish. Sponsors at Jean Baptiste's baptism were Jean Baptiste Goignon [Gagnon?} and Archange Riviere, wife of Pierre Paquin; neither the sponsors nor the father signed the register.

At age 31 Jean Baptiste, farmer, married Emerence Duteau on 21 Oct 1828 in Sainte-Geneviève parish in Berthier. There were nine known children born into this marriage.
