Richard was born in 1747-1753 in Frederick, Winchester County, Virginia to parents Samuel Merrifield Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Overington) Merrifield.[citation needed]
Born
1747
Fredrick, Winchester Co., Virginia. [1][2][3]
Richard Merrifield is a Military Veteran. Served in the Brittish Colony of Virginia, Captain Zachquil Morgan's Company, Virginia Militia 1744-1744 Richard Merrifield. fought in Lord Dunmore's War.
On 13 March 1798, in Monongalia County, Virginia, Richard Merrefield sued William Robe, Jr. in a chancery suit. Merrefield owned lands adjacent to William Jr.’s in the Booth’s Creek and Laurel Run area. The court remarked: “David Robe is appointed to conduct this business.” I believe that this is evidence that William Jr. was already mentally incompetent. The suit was then referred to Isaac H. Williams, Dudley Evans, Samuel Hanway and Nicholas Vandevort and it was declared that the award of the majority of these “gentle justices” should be the decree of the Court [6].
On the 13th of November of that year the chancery case of Merrefield vs. William Robe, Jr. abated by the death of the plaintiff Merrefield [7]

I am not related. Just passing along information. I have a copy of a 1932 newspaper article from the Exponet-Telegram (Clarksburg, WV). It gives records from a Bible owned by (remember this was in 1932) J. A. Springer of Flemington.
The oldest birth date is Richard Merrifield, Feb. 23, 1753 and Pheba Merrifield, Jan. 26, 1752 (note Pheba spelling ends in "a" not an "e"....could this be a typographical error?) The former was the son of Samuel and Mary Merrifield and the latter the daughter of John and Elizabeth Tucker. Members of the Springer family listed in the Bible are Job Springer, born Aug. 21, 1793; Ann, born Sept. 12, 1795; Phebe Springer, born Oct. 26, 1797; Elizabeth, born Jan. 4, 1800; Dennis, born May 4, 1902; Hannah, born Aug. 13, 1804; Drusilla, born April 28, 1807; Bashaba (not spelled Bathsheba), born Sept. 30, 1809; Alphus, born Jan. 1, 1812;; and Roanna, born Oct. 1, 1815. Other birth records in the Bible are Alpheas L. Dorsey, March 28, 1843, and Joseph B. Dorsey, July 19, 1844.

I have information that Bathsheba Merrifield married John Springer. I am at work and my data, listing all of John and Bathsheba's decendents is at home. So, from memory: John was the son of Dennis Springer who was from Burlington, County, NJ. John and his brothers Job and Uriah fought in the Revolutionary War and are listed in the DAR index of Patriots (from Virginia). John and Bathsheba's son Alpheus married Mary Ann Griffith. They lived in the Morgantown, WV area. One of their sons, Lewis Bartholomew Springer moved to Delaware County (near Muncie), IN. There he met and married Emma Amanda Swander. Emma's family migrated from Switzerland via Allentown, PA & Tiffin, OH. Lewis & Emma had 5 children, the youngest was my grandfather, Henry Gail Springer.
