James married first Alice/Ellis/Ells Cooper on 11 Nov 1768 at Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts Bay.[2] They had one known child:[3]
Lydia, b. about 1770; m. Samuel Johnson; moved to Holland, N. Y. in 1820
After the death of wife Alice, he married Elizabeth Bailey (vital record has "Betty French"). Their marriage intentions were dated 29 Oct 1774 at Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts Bay.[2] They were the parents of:[3]
Alice, b. 29 Nov 1775; d. 30 Sep 1864, in Holland, N. Y.; m. (1) Daniel Baker, (2) Harvey Johnson
Betsey, b. 18 Aug 1777; d. 15 Oct 1858, in Holderness, N. H.; m. George Loud
James, b. 1779; d. 1840; m. Sally Foss
Joseph, b. 1781; d. 1802
He removed to Campton, New Hampshire in 1778, where he was one of the early settlers. He died in 1821.[3]
