Death of Mrs. Mary Martin, of Pleasant District.
Mrs. Mary Martin died at the house of her son, Isaac W. Martin, in Pleasant District, on March 16, 1887. She was born Dec. 9, 1793, and had, therefore, reached the ripe old age of 93 years 3 months and 7 days. She was the widow of Jacob Martin, who died in 1880, Her first husband was Peter Miller, who died in the War of 1812. By him she had two children, the late John P. Miller, the only one of all her children who is dead; and Mrs. George Jackson, of Rowlesburg. Her children by Mr. Martin are: the Rev. James Martin, now in Ritchie County, Daniel T. Miller, of Kingwood District, Mrs. George Myers, of Tyler County, Mrs. Wm. Liston, of Wetzel County, Isaac W. Martin, of Pleasant District, Moses R. Martin, of Mason County, Mrs. Alpheus Devall, J. J. Martin, of Pleasant District, Benj. F. Martin, of Henry County, Ohio, and Mrs. James M. Devall, of Nebraska.
She was, as was also her late husband, a member of the Baptist Church for many years. She was not diseased, but died of old age. She was taken up in the morning, placed in her rocking chair, and her break-fast was given her. When her room was first entered as hour or so afterward, she was dying, and expired before she could be gotten to the bed. Her funeral occurred on the 17th, and the remains were interred on her son Isaac’s farm.
