Biography

Joseph was born in 1866, in Remich, Grevenmacher, Luxembourg. He was the son of Nicholas Meyer and Margaret Sauerwein.^[1] He migrated to the United States in 1870, at the age of 4. He married Nora O’Connor on February 17th 1890 in Jackson, Kansas City, Missouri. ^[2] In 1900, he worked as a detective private and rented a house on Diversey Avenue. ^[3] In 1910, he then rented a home on Sheffield Avenue, in Chicago. He was a proprietor (owner) of a cigar store in Chicago, his other occupation is listed as a detective private. ^[4] In 1920, he lived on Clark Street, it’s listed that he was a proprietor at a candy store.^[5] He passed away in 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. He is buried at the Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, in Hillside, Cook County, Illinois.
