Biography

Rebecca Margaret Miller was born in 1845 in Pennsylvania, United States. Rebecca was the daughter of Solomon Miller and Barbara Schrock.

In 1850, Margaret Miller, age 4, was living with parents "Solomon C, age 33, and Barbara Miller, age 25" and her siblings "Catharine, age 8; Eli, age 5; Samuel, age 2, and Lydia, age 2 months". The family had moved to Walnut Creek, Walnut Creek Township, Holmes, Ohio. Michael Bordenstine, age 60, also resided at their residence. [1]

In 1860, Rebecca Miller, age 14, was living with parents "Salomon, age 41, and Barbara Miller, age 36" and her siblings "Catharine, age 18; Elias, age 17; Samuel, age 12; Lydia, age 10; Christian, age 7; Benjamin, age 5; and Aaron, age 3". They still resided at Walnut Creek, where her father was a farmer and owned their land. [2]

In about 1865, the family moved to Indiana, where Rebecca’s father worked as a farmer.

Marriage and Children

On July 19, 1868, Rebecca Miller was married to Michael Hunsberger at St. Joseph, Indiana, United States. (Parents names not listed in document). [3] Michael was the son of Christian Hunsberger and Ester Schlichter Oberholtzer Hunsberger. Together Michael and Rebecca had the following known children:

  6. Solomon Hunsberger (b. 1879; m. 1900, Ida Wagner; d. 1948) [12]
  7. Margaret Hunsberger (b. 1881; m. Jackson Conrad; d. 1949) [13]
  8. Mary Hunsberger (b. 1883; m. 1898 William Henry Burkey ; d. 1975) [14] [15]
  9. Sarah Hunsberger (b. 1885; m. 1905 Reuben Lechlitner; d. 1947) [16] [17]
  10. Amanda Hunsberger (b. 1890; m1. Leroy Clingdanel; m2. 1917 John 0rlando Wilson; d. 1977) [18]

In 1870, Michael, age 32, and Rebecca Hunsberger, age 24, were living with their son John, age 1, in Elkhart Township, Elkhart, Indiana. Samuel Miller, age 22, likely Rebecca's younger brother, was employed as a farm labourer and also residing in the household. Michael's brothers, Henry, Peter and Isaac Hunsberger lived nearby and their respective families are listed on the same census page [19]

In 1880, "M, age 44, and Robecca Huntsberger, age 35, " lived with their children "John, age 11; Catharine, 9; Otilla, age 7; Aron, age 5; Isaac, age 4; and Solomon, age 1”. They lived in Olive Township, Elkhart, Indiana, where Michael was employed as a blacksmith. [20]

In 1900, "Michel, age 65, and Rebecca Huntsberger, age 55" lived with their children "John, age 31; Aaron, age 25; Isaac, age 24; Solomon, age 21; Sarah, age 15; Amanda, age 10". Joseph Overholzer, age 78, a boarder, also resided with the family. Michel's occupation: farmer. [21]

In 1902, both of Rebecca's parents passed away in Elkhart County, Indiana. [22] [23]

In 1910, "Micheal, age 74, and Rebeca Hunsberger, age 66, lived with their son Aaron Hunsberger, age 33". They lived in Locke, Locke Township, Elkhart, Indiana. Occupations: Michael, none; Rebeca, school teacher in a public school; Aaron, farmer. [24]

In 1920, "Mikel, age 84, and Rebecca Hunsberger, age 74, lived in Locke Township, Elkhart, Indiana". Mikel's age is indexed as age 74 at family search. Both Mikel and Rebecca are retired. [25]

Death and Burial

In 1923, Rebecca Margaret Miller Hunsberger passed away (age 77–78) in Elkhart County, Indiana. She was buried at the South Union Cemetery, Nappanee, Elkhart County, Indiana. [26]

Rebecca's husband Michael Hunsberger passed away on August 10, 1923 (age 88) in Nappanee, Elkhart County, Indiana. He was buried in South Union Cemetery, Nappanee, Elkhart County, Indiana. [27]
