Hyrum came to the Salt Lake Valley with his parents. As he grew, he helped his father on the farm.
When Hyrum was old enough, he became a freighter carrying flour, wheat, and other commodities from Utah to Nevada and California. His main problem was those who tried to rob him, often torturing or beating him if they could not find the money. He was known as a great colonizer.
After his marriage to Carrie, they moved to Washington County, Utah, and then to Pipe Springs, Arizona, where they had problems with the Indians. They moved on to Little Springs, Nevada, and then to Eagle Valley, Nevada, where Hyrum's half brother was killed by road agents.
About 1890 they settled permanently in Snake Valley, Nevada, where they raised their family. Hyrum spent most of his life ranching and farming.
Husband of Carrie A. Miller. Buried in Upper Ranch, Snake Valley, Miller Canyon.
