Simeon Mills was born in Ohio. He married Rachel Jones in 1835 in Warren County, Ohio, and their first daughter, Sarah, was born there. They moved to Carroll County, Indiana, about 1839. In 1850, at age 35, Simeon was living in Fulton County, Indiana, with Rachel, and five children: Sarah, Deborah, Thomas, Lewis, and Nancy. (His son, Hamilton, had died as a baby.) Simeon was working as a blacksmith, and 27-year-old Silas McKegg was working with him and living with his family.
By 1860, Simeon had moved back to Camden in Carroll County, Indiana. He continued his blacksmith profession and remained in Camden the rest of his life. Additional children born in Carroll County were: Cass, Della, Mary, Annie, and Israel.
