James George Mitchell was born 11 Feb 1882 on the Mitchell family farm in the township of Ascot. He was the son of Robert Mitchell and Mary McLaren. On 22 June 1883, he was baptized in the Sherbrooke Congregational Church, shrebrooke, Quebec, Canada.

James passed away 3 Feb 1890 of diphtheria. He was buried the next day in Malvern cemetery, Lennoxville, Quebec.

At the time, he was the fourth child in the family to pass away of diphtheria in less then 2 months.
