Samuel (23) married Sarah Newell (21) (born in September, 1859 in Canada) on April 14, 1881 in Gawler, South Australia.^[2] Their daughter was Daisy Mildred Mitchell (1891–1978).

Samuel died on August 10, 1930 in Hermitage, South Australia, Australia, aged 73.^{[3] [4]}
