Her father, Stratton was the owner of a tea plantation in Ceylon, he died there in about 1849, and his wife a family returned to live in England.
In 1851, Susanna and her three children are living in the parish of St Marylebone, Middlesex at 37 Nottingham Place.[1]

She married Edgar Dewdney in 1864.
At the time of the 1901 Canada Census, Edgar and Jane S. Dewdney were listed as living in Victoria, along with a niece named Elfride K. Allison, Jane's mother Susan L. Glennie, and a servant named Lee Ging[2].
Jane died on 30 Jan 1906, in Victoria, British Columbia[3] and was buried in the Ross Bay cemetery.
