Research Notes

There were three others named John Moloney of the same generation who were born in Tullybrackey, near Bruff, and baptized in Bruff Catholic Parish, County Limerick. They were all most likely related to John Moloney, son of Patrick Moloney and Margaret Cleary, especially since Simon Moloney and Catherine Moloney were John's baptismal sponsors.[1]

  • John Moloney, baptized 5 Sep 1827, son of Simon and Catherine (Mulchahy) Moloney of Tullybrackey townland.[3]
  • John Moloney, baptized 27 June 1830, son of John and Maria (Cleary) Moloney of Tullybrackey townland.[4] Died as infant in 1830.
  • John Moloney, baptized 29 June 1831, son of John and Maria (Cleary) Moloney of Tullybrackey townland.[5]

I do not think the John Moloney who died in 1853 was any of the above. Their father's households (Simon Moloney, John Moloney) were included in the Tithe Applotment Books, 1823-1837 for Tullybrackey townland.[6] However, they were missing from the Griffith’s Valuation Land Survey 1848-64 for Tullybrackey townland,[7] which indicates the families probably emigrated.
