Biography
The daughter of William L. Mooney (1847-1879) and Jane McConnell (1854-1906), Bertha Mooney was born in Essex Township, Illinois[citation needed] in 1872, residing there with her family.[1] Her siblings included:
Julia Mooney (1873-)
Grace E. Mooney (1876-1909)
Elizabeth Mooney (1881-1916)
Bertha married Arthur Nicholas, marrying around 1893 and having five known children together. They made their home in Essex Township, farming.[2] They later moved west to California, seeking a cure for Bertha's tuberculosis. She did not get a cure and died of tuberculosis at the age of 31, passing away in Riverside, California.[3][4] Bertha is buried, or memorialized, at Evergreen Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Riverside, California.[5]
