Anthony Bailey Moore was baptised on 8 October 1820, registered at St Philip's Church of England, Sydney, NSW. His parents were recorded as Joseph and Ann Moor(sic), his place of birth Sydney, and his date of birth 14 September 1820.[1] His parents had arrived in Sydney only a month before, on the Woodlark on 18 August 1820; his father Joseph Moore was master of the ship Woodlark. Note however, that his mother was in the passenger list as Mary Moore, not Ann.
In the 1822 muster Anthony Moore, aged 2, was listed as Child of Captain Moore.
In the 1825 muster Anthony Moore, aged 5, was listed as arrived per ship Woodlark 1820, Residence Sydney, Child of Captain Moore, Employment: Woodlark
In the 1828 census: Anthony Bailey Moore, Aged: 8 years, Religion: Protestant; Born in Colony; in household of Joseph Moore, residence: Cumberland Street Sydney
Marriage 1: Anthony married Eliza Jane Ikin (1817 - 1864) on 25 January 1842 in St Phillips church, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia [2]
They had a daughter, Rosetta Frances Ann, born on 8 May 1843, baptised on 4 June 1843 at St Phillip's, Sydney.[3] However Rosetta died on 19th November 1845.[4]
Marriage 2: Anthony Bailey Moore (widower, mariner, father Joseph Moore, master Mariner) married Elizabeth Smith (widow, father Thomas Kingdom, gardener) at St Mary Wihitechapel in London on 21 May 1856.[5] This was a bigamous marriage.
In the 1881 census, "Anthony Baily Moore" was listed as living singly in Pancras, London as head, married, age 60, Mariner unemployed, born Sydney NSW. He was living in the same dwelling as George Smith, married, 48, licenced victualler, Eliza Smith wife, 48, and Marion Moore Smith daughter 14.[6]
Death: Anthony Bailey Moore died on 5 May 1889 at 15 Mawbey Road, Old Kent Road in London.[7] The inquest to his death was reported in the South London Press on 11 May 1889:
Eliza Jane Ikin was born on 7 October 1817 at Sydney. She was the daughter of Alexander Ikin and Elizabeth Crook. Eliza Jane was baptised on 2 November 1817, registered at St Philip's Church of England, Sydney.[9][10]
Anthony Bailey Moore left his wife Eliza Jane, and he bigamously married another woman in London in 1856.
His Australian wife, Eliza Jane Moore died at her residence, Elizabeth Street Sydney on 29 February 1864, according to her death notice. Unfortunately her death is not appearing in the NSW death registration index. Death Notice, Empire (Sydney, NSW), Thursday 3 March 1864, page 1:
Her grave, with her parents and her daughter Rosetta, is at Waverley Cemetery (Section: 3 Select; Row 22; Plot No.786). The inscription on the grave mentions that she was the wife of Anthony Moore.[12][13] They were originally buried on the Devonshire Street Cemetery in Sydney and the grave was moved in 1901 to Waverley Cemetery after the Devonshire Street Cemetery was destroyed to made way for Central Railway Station. The applicant to re-bury was Mrs L. Aitken, 22 Underwood St, Paddington.[14]
