Civil War pension records confirmed much info on James WIlson Moore and his wife Mary Guthrie (dates and places).
The pension documents say that he "enrolled" on May 2, 1864 as a private in Company K, 166th Regiment, Ohio National Guard Infantry, and was honorably discharged on Dec. 10, 1864.
In another document, his widow refers to his service as being in the "Ohio Infantry Volunteers."
In another document, an affadavit sworn by James, he says he was discharged on Sept. 9, 1864.
says of the 166th Ohio that "This Regiment was organized at Camp Cleveland, 0., May 13 and 15 1864, to serve one hundred days. It was composed of the Fifty-ninth Battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Holmes County ; Sixty-third Regiment, Ohio National Guard, from Huron County; Seventy-ninth Battalion, Ohio
National Guard, from Medina County ; and one company of the Fifty-second Battalion, Ohio National Guard, from Wayne County. Immediately after
muster-in the Regiment proceeded to Virginia, and was placed on duty in Forts Richardson, Barnard, Reynolds, Ward, and Worth, with headquarters
at Fort Richardson. The Regiment returned to Ohio, and was mustered out September 9, 1864, on expiration of its term of service." That report includes a complete roster which lists James Wilson Moore with company K.
In the 1860 Ohio census, James W. Moore and Mary Moore are listed as living in Coshocton County near the Robert Guthrie family.
