Research Notes

DNA

Y-DNA testing for male descendants through son RIchard Morgan Moore
Edwin R. Moore and son Stanley Edwin R. Moore
James Richard Moore (variation of 2 from his cousins above)
His children consistent say both their parents were born in Ireland. Y-DNA matches to person with the Moore surname only match Wesleyan Methodist family from County Cork and Moher, Roman Catholic family also from County Cork. There are many atDNA matches for 4 of his descendants to other Wesleyan Methodist families from south western Cork- Schull, Skibbereen, Ballydehob, Clonakilty.
There are numerous atDNA matches at Ancestry between the descendants of the 3 Moore children who all married Keown siblings. There no known Moore siblings who did not marry a Keown. By looking at matches to Keowns who did not marry into the Moore family, it may be possible to eventually attribute some matches to the Keown verses the Moore ancestors.

Rochester

Some interesting information about Rochester, where Jeremiah lived. It is repeated in several locations, I am not sure who the original source is.
There is an interesting piece of history in Rochester connected to Co. Cork. "The community designated as Cork was in the section comprising Ontario, Davis, Kirk (Woodward) and North streets. The community was settled in the early 1840s and was composed of Protestant Irish immigrants from County Cork, Ireland. For years they were known as Corkonians and later as the "ninety-nine cousins", it being claimed that the little colony bragged of 99 voters, unconditional Republicans. The families comprising the section were the Attridges, Bakers, Dukelows, Gays, Gosnells, Skuses, Swantons and Whitleys. James Baker, a political leader of the clan, a deacon of the North Street Methodist Church, a teetotaler, was the excise commissioner, in charge of granting licenses to the saloons of the city, there being one in the rear of many grocery establishments. In the 1880s and 1890s, when the detective force of the city consisted of but a small fraction of the present force, the "cousins" were represented by four: Baker, Dukelow, Skuse and Swanton."
However, the Moore families lived on the opposite side of the river.
Another article about the 99 Cousins also stated that the Shannon and Killip families were part of this family compact, and that they were a powerful force in local politics, with representatives in city government from the mayor's chair down to the street cleaning department, and many on the police force.

Durham County

Durham County (area 376,397 acres (1,523 km2)) is a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was named from the English County and city.
Durham County was created in 1792. It was composed of the townships of Cartwright, Manvers, Cavan, Darlington, Clarke and Hope, and portions of what is now Peterborough County, created in 1838. It was united administratively with Northumberland County as the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham from 1800 until Durham County was dissolved on January 1, 1974.
Effective January 1, 1974, about half of Durham County was merged with Ontario County to create the Regional Municipality of Durham. The township of Manvers was transferred to Victoria County, which is now the city of Kawartha Lakes, Cavan was transferred to Peterborough County, where it is now part of Cavan-Monaghan, and Hope was transferred to Northumberland County, where it is now part of the town of Port Hope.
So it depends upon the time period as to whether Cavan was in Durham, Northumberland or Peterborough County.

Marriage

Per Brian Tricker:
Martha Morgan married Jeremiah Moore 7 Feb 1839 Cavanville. They took up residence on S/E 1/4 lot 3 conc 14 Cavan, right next to John and Margaret Morgan. In 1840 this property was taken over by Jeremiah's brother Joseph Moore (b. 1 May 1813 d. 5 Jun 1871). ---I have not verified this, when attempted to look at land records could not get to match up. I need return and recheck. JEH

(Elgin Co, Malahide reference to widow of Jeremiah Moore in Jun 1844 not likely, but recording)
Document signed 6 Mar 1864 giving testimony by Martha Raycroff /Raycroft/Reycraft saying she was present when transactions for selling property by Jeremiah Moore were completed previously. This implies that Jeremiah is deceased. So is Martha Raycroft/Raycroff, the Martha Morgan who had married Jeremiah Moore and has by then remarried?
