Biography

Walter Kingsbury Moore was born 15 September 1883 in Nassau, Bahamas to Ernest Kingsbury Moore and Maria Alday Moore.

He married Maud Linley Sturrup, daughter of Henry Cannell Sturrup and Belinda Bethell Sturrup, the first day of June, 1910 at Trinity Wesleyan Methodist Church, Nassau, Bahamas. The couple had children Walter Kingsbury Moore, Jr., Winifred Maude Moore, and Ernest Moore.

WK Moore, merchant, was the largest exporter of Bahamian sisal hemp and marine products (tortoise and sea shells). Served as Member of Parliament for Grand Bahama and Bimini, as a member of the Executive Council, and as president of the Legislative Council.

Walter Kingsbury Moore received a CBE (Order of the British Empire - Civil Division) on the Colonial Office Honours List, 1935. And in 1942, he received a Knight Bachelor on the New Year's List.
