Before going to California in 1853, according to family tradition, he sold his slaves. However, his wife, Nancy Miller Bean Moore remained in Pope County Arkansas with her daughter Elizabeth Bean Aiken, widow of Dr. Trent Aiken, and it is possible that remaining slaves were given to her.
