MOORE, Basil/Baswell/Boswell: CSA Company F, 2nd, 64th Virginia Mounted Infantry was organized in December 1862 in Abington, by consolidating the 21st and 29th Virginia Infantry Battalions.

Baswell enlisted on February 1, 1863, at Jonesville, Lee, Virginia. He was taken POW on September 24, 1863, at Cumberland Gap, Virginia. Baswell was sent to Camp Douglas, Cook Co., Chicago, ILL. On September 24, 1863, he dies there, leaving a wife, Mahala and three children, Matilda, Anthony and William K. Moore in Tennessee.

The 64th Virginia confronted the Federal in various conflicts in East Tennessee, Western Virginia, and North Carolina until the war's end. It suffered equipment and manpower problems. During April 1864, it totaled 268 effectives, in April 1865, fewer than 50 disbanded.
