Biography

Jemima was the daughter of (____) Moore and Sarah Burroughs. Claims that her father was William G. Moore are unsubstantiated, and the use of a middle initial early in the 18th century is dubious.

Jemima married John Dyer, and we learn much from John's diary.[1]

Research Notes

To identify Jemima's paternal family, the best clues may be the many Moores mentioned in John's diary. John's sister Phebe married John Moore, and in those days it was common to find two siblings marrying two other siblings. Below is presented the entries from John's diary that mention Moores. While it is reasonable that John Moore and Jemima Moore were close kin, we must keep in mind that if they were not, then we these Moore entries would probably represent both families and need teasing apart. Also, when the surname is not clear but it seems possible one of the people was a Moore, the entry was often included in the list.
