Biography

Daniel was baptised 12 AUG 1816 at Independent Chapel, Little Baddow, Essex.

Note: Philosopher and Inspector of schools (Dictionary of National Biography). British educationalist. Went to Homerton College (London) in 1833 where he studied theology under Dr. Pye Smith. He then entered the University of Glasgow where he took his M.. degree in 1841. Subsequently he studied philosophy and theology under Fichte at Bonn, and returned to England to undertake the pastorate of the Congregational church at Gosport. After 3 years work Morell decided to give up the ministry in favour of philosophical work. As early as 1846 he made his name by his 'Historical and critical View of the Speculative Philosophy of Europe in the Nineteen Century' which brought him to the notice of Lord Lansdowne who made him an Inspector of schools. From 1848 till 1876 he was active in this capacity. He produced numerous educational works - SEE Wikipedia the free encyclopedia online. Civil Service Education Department Officer residing at Holyrood House, Southend Road, Beckenham, Kent in 1871 - with him and his wife were her unmarried sister Mary R Wrexford aged 61, niece Matilda Morell aged 32 and his 2nd cousin Veronica Morell aged 12. Civil Service Education Officer retired widower residing at 15 Clifton Crescent, Folkestone, Kent in 1881 - with him was his cousin Veronica Morell unmarried aged 22 and niece Letitia Morell unmarried aged 43. Executor wth brother Thomas of father's will 1850.

Daniel died 1 Apr 1891 at 10, Fitzjohn's Avenue, Hampstead, Middlesex and was buried 4 Apr 1891 at Cheriton Road Cemetery, Folkestone, Kent[1].
