Biography of William Morison

Birth

William Morrison was baptised on 16 December 1787. He was the third child born to Roderick Morison and Mary Mackay. [1]

Life

William's father Roderick Morison was a shepherd in Cerruac on Cape Wrath, Sutherland, Scotland. William's mother Mary Mackay was from Sartigrim. His parents were married on 27 November 1777. [2]

William was born into a family with two older siblings.

  1. William's brother George Morison was 5 years old when William was born in 1787. [3]
  2. William's sister Mary Morison was 1 year old when William was born in 1787. [4]

Ten years after William's birth his parents baptised another newborn infant as William Morison. It is possible that this William born in 1787 did not live to see his five younger siblings.

William's younger brother Hugh Morison was baptized 23 May 1790. Both parents were included on this baptism, their location was "Cerruac near Cape-wrath," Roderick was identified as a "herdman," and a date of birth was not reported for Hugh. [5]
