Cornelius Morton was born in October 1786 in Meduncook (now Friendship), Lincoln (now Knox) County, District (now State) of Maine. He was the son of Joshua and Mercy (Howard) Morton.
Cornelius married his cousin, Mrs. Sally (Morton) Lawry, daughter of Ebenezer and Rachel (Bradford) Morton, and widow of Samuel Lawry. Cornelius and Sally had the following children: Nancy C., Susan L. Howard, and Josephus.
Cornelius passed away on December 13, 1876. He was 90 years 2 mos. 3 days old at the time of his death. He is buried at the Roadside Cemetery in Friendship.
