Ruth Moses, a Native American, Wampanoag Indian woman married Cuff Slocum in 1747, an African slave, that had arrived in New England on a slave ship in the 1720s. They raised a family of 10 children on Cuttyhunk Island. Children:
Coffe bought his freedom from John Slocum in the 1740's and bought a 120-acre farm in Westport in 1766 that passed to his widow and two younger sons when he died in 1772.
