Ruth was Wampanoag.
Born in Chilmark, Dukes, Massachusetts, United States in 1720 to Wampanoag Nation Moses and Fanny Moses.
Ruth Moses, a Native American, Wampanoag Indian woman married Cuff Slocum in 1747, an African slave, that had arrived in New England on a slave ship in the 1720s. They raised a family of 10 children on Cuttyhunk Island. Children:

- Jonathan Slocum Cuffe 1748 - 1827
- Sarah Slocum Cuffe Dice Durfee 1752 - 1837
- Mary Slocum Wainer 1753 - 1804
- Phear Slocum Cuffe Phelps 1755 - 1846
- John Slocum 1757 - 1836
- Capt. Paul Cuffee 1759 - 1817
- Lydia Slocum Cuffe 1761 - 1847
- Ruth Cuffe 1763 - 1817
- Freelove Slocum 1766 - 1818
Coffe bought his freedom from John Slocum in the 1740's and bought a 120-acre farm in Westport in 1766 that passed to his widow and two younger sons when he died in 1772.
Ruth passed away on 6 Jan 1787 in Massachusetts, USA.
