Biography

European Aristocracy
Philip Mowbray was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Philip is named as the third son of Nigel de Mowbray and his wife Mabel in a genealogy of the Mowbray family related to the founding of the Abbey of Newburgh.

Hic Nigellus cepit in uxorem filiam Edmondi comitis de Clara, nomine Mabillam, et genuit ex ea quatuor filios, scilicet Willihelmum de Molbray, Robertum, Philippum et Rogerum.[1]

Although this genealogy is somewhat suspect, for instance his mother is named as the daughter of Edmund, Count of Clare, and no Count of Clare existed by that name, and it was probably written long after this time period (there is a mention of Henrici octavi Henry VIII, toward the end of the charter).[2], Philip (Philippo de Mubray, fratre meo) is a witness to another charter to Newburgh, where his brother William, confirms grants made by his father and grandfather and also makes other grants to the Abbey.[3]

However at this stage there appear to be no other mention of Philip in any primary documents.
