Biography

MARIA MYERS aka MOYER. was born on 14 Aug 1775 in Schell's Bush, Herkimer, New York. She died on 26 Sep 1860 in Ingersoll, Oxford, Ontario, Canada. She was buried in West Oxford Church Cemetery, Ingersoll, Oxford, Ontario, Canada.

Maria's parents, died when she was age 2. Mary was adopted into the family and raised by her aunt and uncle, Maria Barbara Rasbach and Johannes Schell.

Johannes Schell was the uncle of Maria's future husband Johann Henrich Schell. Johannes Schell, Maria's adoptive father, was disabled. He was wounded in the left side in the Battle of Oriskany while serving as a private in the German Flatts and Kingsland District Regiment of Militia.

Maria Gerlach Meyer married April 13, 1794 in Dutch Reformed Church, Stone Arabia, Herkimer Co., New York, JOHANN HEINRICH SCHELL twin of Marcus Schell, the son of Johann Christian SCHELL and Maria Elizabetha PETRIE. Johann was born on 22 Sep 1770 in Schell's Bush, Herkimer, New York. He was christened on 10 Oct 1770 in Dutch Reformed Church, Stone Arabia, Montgomery, New York. He died on 12 Apr 1859 in Ingersoll, Oxford, Ontario, Canada. He was buried in West Oxford Church Cemetery, Ingersoll, Oxford, Ontario, Canada.

Mary died at the residence of her son, Daniel.

DEATH NOTICE: Ingersoll Chronicle Friday, October 05, 1860 Pg: 3, Col: 2 EVENT DATE: Thursday, September 27, 1860 In this place, 27th ult., Mary, relict of Mr. Henry Shell, and mother of Mr. Daniel Shell, of Ingersoll, in the 86th year of her age.
